BDC Case Challenge 2018 – Vanier College wins Gold

Mr. John McMahon, Director General of Vanier College is pleased to announce that after two days of mounting excitement and imaginative presentations at the 13th annual 2018 Vanier College BDC Case Challenge on February 10 and 11, the first place Gold Award went to Vanier College from Montréal. Congratulations to the Vanier Team composed of students Isaiah Paul-Cole, Isabella Mirasola, Dylan Papineau and Krystal Milo, and their Head Coach David Moscovitz and Assistant Coach Peter Vogopoulos.  Vanier College has always been a very strong medal contender over the past 13 years, and this is the second time it wins Gold.

The Silver Award went to Algonquin College whose team consisted of Alexia Marano, Cameron Saunders, Chaewon Min, Victoria Fox and Coaches Bill Garbarino and Jim Neubauer; while the Bronze Award went to Nova Scotia Community College – Ivany with team members Anabelle Serrano-Pinto, Jessica Power, Brody Reid and Coach Wendy Tarrel.  The three other teams that made it to the finals were Durham College, Collège Montmorency and Red River College. During the weekend event, twenty-four teams of marketing students from colleges across Canada had three hours to analyze a real marketing case and present viable marketing solutions before a panel of expert judges.

“The Case Challenge is a perfect example of how a collaboration between Vanier College and an organization such as BDC, the principal sponsor of this event, can create unique learning opportunities for students that motivate them in their educational and career pursuits,” said M. McMahon.

BDC is very proud to be a long-time supporter of an annual event that allows students, professionals, and mentors to come together and form valuable relationship. “Increasingly, the marketing function plays an important role in any business success. In a similar vein, we are happy to help students improve their marketing skills by allowing them to work the marketing plan of a real BDC client, and bring real-world connections and a unique experience outside the classroom. It’s our way of helping build stronger businesses and more vibrant communities,” says Michel Bergeron, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs, BDC.

David Moscovitz, Vanier College BDC Case Challenge organizer, was thrilled with this year’s 13th competition. “I am overjoyed with the performance of the Vanier team. Winning the gold medal was the culmination of much hard work and dedication and I am immensely proud of them. Their talent and capability, and their development and evolution in preparing for this event was utterly remarkable and inspiring.”

“I am so pleased to see how this event has evolved over the past 13 years.  It not only challenges participants in their field of expertise but it also allows them to meet Marketing students from across Canada and network with them. No other case competition provides college and cegep level students with this kind of opportunity.”
